ٱلۡمَلَأُ
مِن
قَوۡمِ
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
إِنَّ
هَٰذَا
لَسَٰحِرٌ
عَلِيمٞ
١٠٩
The leaders among Pharaoh’s people said, ‘This man is a learned sorcerer!

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
يُرِيدُ
أَن
يُخۡرِجَكُم
مِّنۡ
أَرۡضِكُمۡۖ
فَمَاذَا
تَأۡمُرُونَ
١١٠
He means to drive you out of your land!’ Pharaoh said, ‘What do you suggest?’

قَالُوٓاْ
أَرۡجِهۡ
وَأَخَاهُ
وَأَرۡسِلۡ
فِي
ٱلۡمَدَآئِنِ
حَٰشِرِينَ
١١١
They said, ‘Delay him and his brother for a while, and send messengers to all the cities
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
يَأۡتُوكَ
بِكُلِّ
سَٰحِرٍ
عَلِيمٖ
١١٢
to summon every learned sorcerer to you.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَجَآءَ
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
قَالُوٓاْ
إِنَّ
لَنَا
لَأَجۡرًا
إِن
كُنَّا
نَحۡنُ
ٱلۡغَٰلِبِينَ
١١٣
The sorcerers came to Pharaoh and said, ‘Shall we be rewarded if we win?’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالَ
نَعَمۡ
وَإِنَّكُمۡ
لَمِنَ
ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ
١١٤
and he replied, ‘Yes, and you will join my inner court.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالُواْ
يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ
إِمَّآ
أَن
تُلۡقِيَ
وَإِمَّآ
أَن
نَّكُونَ
نَحۡنُ
ٱلۡمُلۡقِينَ
١١٥
So they said, ‘Moses, will you throw first or shall we?’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالَ
أَلۡقُواْۖ
فَلَمَّآ
أَلۡقَوۡاْ
سَحَرُوٓاْ
أَعۡيُنَ
ٱلنَّاسِ
وَٱسۡتَرۡهَبُوهُمۡ
وَجَآءُو
بِسِحۡرٍ
عَظِيمٖ
١١٦
He said, ‘You throw,’ and they did, casting a spell on people’s eyes, striking fear into them, and bringing about great sorcery.

۞ وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ
إِلَىٰ
مُوسَىٰٓ
أَنۡ
أَلۡقِ
عَصَاكَۖ
فَإِذَا
هِيَ
تَلۡقَفُ
مَا
يَأۡفِكُونَ
١١٧
Then We inspired Moses, ‘Throw your staff,’ and- lo and behold!––it devoured their fakery.

فَوَقَعَ
ٱلۡحَقُّ
وَبَطَلَ
مَا
كَانُواْ
يَعۡمَلُونَ
١١٨
The truth was confirmed and what they had produced came to nothing:

فَغُلِبُواْ
هُنَالِكَ
وَٱنقَلَبُواْ
صَٰغِرِينَ
١١٩
they were defeated there and utterly humiliated.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَأُلۡقِيَ
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ
سَٰجِدِينَ
١٢٠
The sorcerers fell to their knees
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالُوٓاْ
ءَامَنَّا
بِرَبِّ
ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
١٢١
and said, ‘We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
رَبِّ
مُوسَىٰ
وَهَٰرُونَ
١٢٢
the Lord of Moses and Aaron!’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالَ
فِرۡعَوۡنُ
ءَامَنتُم
بِهِۦ
قَبۡلَ
أَنۡ
ءَاذَنَ
لَكُمۡۖ
إِنَّ
هَٰذَا
لَمَكۡرٞ
مَّكَرۡتُمُوهُ
فِي
ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ
لِتُخۡرِجُواْ
مِنۡهَآ
أَهۡلَهَاۖ
فَسَوۡفَ
تَعۡلَمُونَ
١٢٣
but Pharaoh said, ‘How dare you believe in Him before I have given you permission? This is a plot you have hatched to drive the people out of this city! Soon you will see:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ
أَيۡدِيَكُمۡ
وَأَرۡجُلَكُم
مِّنۡ
خِلَٰفٖ
ثُمَّ
لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمۡ
أَجۡمَعِينَ
١٢٤
I will cut off your alternate hands and feet and then crucify you all!’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالُوٓاْ
إِنَّآ
إِلَىٰ
رَبِّنَا
مُنقَلِبُونَ
١٢٥
They said, ‘And so we shall return to our Lord-
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَمَا
تَنقِمُ
مِنَّآ
إِلَّآ
أَنۡ
ءَامَنَّا
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
رَبِّنَا
لَمَّا
جَآءَتۡنَاۚ
رَبَّنَآ
أَفۡرِغۡ
عَلَيۡنَا
صَبۡرٗا
وَتَوَفَّنَا
مُسۡلِمِينَ
١٢٦
Your only grievance against us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour steadfastness upon us and let us die in devotion to You.’
