About Surah An-Nas

Five of the six verses in this Makkan text share the exact same final word: al-nās (Mankind). Along with the chapter immediately preceding it, Sūrat al-Falaq, it forms half of al-Muʿawwidhatān—The Two Protectors. The Prophet described this specific pairing as an unmatched defense. Chronologically the twenty-first revelation, sent down just before Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, it instructed the Prophet to pray against the subtle evils corrupting the hearts of those he called to faith.

The supplication opens by establishing the ultimate defense, calling upon Allah through three absolute authorities: the Lord, King, and God of all humanity. From this supreme power, the focus turns inward to a continuous spiritual danger, seeking refuge from the evil of the "Whisperer who constantly retreats."

The source of these dark suggestions is not left as an abstract concept. These subtle corruptions are traced directly to their true origins, stemming from agents operating from among both the Jinn and humankind.
