About Surah Al-Ikhlas

Bearing over twenty distinct titles—from Sūrat al-Tawḥīd (Monotheism) to Sūrat al-Asās (The Foundation)—this brief text holds a stated merit equal to one-third of the entire Quran. The verses descended as the twenty-second revelation, positioned between Sūrat al-Nās and al-Najm in Makkah, after the Quraysh demanded the Prophet describe the lineage of his Lord.

The four verses deliver a definitive answer that purifies faith from all forms of partnership. The text opens by establishing an absolute, indivisible oneness, then shifts to define Allah as the Eternal Refuge—the one to whom all creation turns for their needs, while He remains entirely free of need Himself.

From this self-sufficiency, the words move to sever all ties of physical descent, negating both the act of begetting and the state of being begotten. What remains is an assertion of sheer transcendence, stripping away any comparison and leaving no room for an equal anywhere in existence.
