About Surah Ad-Duhaa

Following a painful pause in revelation, enemies of the Prophet (ﷺ)—specifically Umm Jamīl—mocked him when an injured finger kept him from his night prayers, claiming he had been abandoned. In response, this eleventh Makkan chapter descends with a dramatic oath. Named al-Ḍuḥā (The Morning Brightness), it uses the breaking of daylight to signal the end of this darkness and silence.

The eleven verses move from immediate consolation to a lasting promise. It opens by swearing that Allah has neither forsaken nor despised him, refuting the polytheists' taunts. The text then turns to a guarantee that his Hereafter will outshine his current worldly life. To ground this assurance, the verses look backward, recalling how Allah previously sheltered him as an orphan, guided him to his Lord, and enriched him from poverty.

The chapter lands on concrete commands of gratitude, mirroring those past hardships.
