About Surah Al-Infitar

Visualizing the Day of Judgment as if seeing it with one's own eyes is the unique virtue of this nineteen-verse revelation, according to the Prophet (ﷺ). Delivered early in the Makkan mission between Sūrat al-Nāziʿāt and al-Inshiqāq, the text was forged to shatter the polytheists' fierce denial of a final reckoning. The title "The Cleaving" refers directly to its stark opening image of the sky splitting apart.

The momentum of the verses moves swiftly from cosmic destruction to deeply personal interrogation. After detailing the celestial and earthly terrors that precede the Hour, the address pivots to confront humankind directly, asking what delusion has caused such ingratitude toward their Lord. The perspective then shifts to the unseen reality of noble scribes meticulously recording every deed, firmly dividing humanity's final destinations between the bliss of the righteous and the fires of the wicked.

All worldly illusions of safety dissolve at the sudden arrival of this recompense. On that day, no soul possesses the slightest power to intervene or help another, and absolute command rests with Allah alone.
