About Surah Ash-Sharh

Following immediately after the emotional support of Sūrat al-Ḍuḥā, these eight Makkan verses deliver further divine consolation to the Prophet (ﷺ) during a period of intense persecution. Counted as the twelfth chapter in the order of revelation, the text draws its multiple names—Ash-Sharh, al-Inshirah (The Relief), and A-lam nashrah—directly from its opening question.

The verses begin by recounting the specific interventions that sustained the Prophet: the purification of his heart, the lifting of a heavy burden, and the elevation of his honor. From this foundation of established favor, the message pivots to a guaranteed principle, stating emphatically that ease inevitably accompanies every hardship.

This promise of relief immediately fuels a command for persistent devotion. Once worldly duties are finished, all remaining hopes and needs must be directed entirely upward, anchoring the soul in continuous, sincere worship aimed solely toward the Lord.
