About Surah Al-Qadr

Known as both Sūrat al-Qadr (Value or Power) and Sūrat Laylat al-Qadr, this chapter centers on the dignity of the Quran’s initial descent. While some argue for a Madinan origin, the majority opinion places its revelation in Makkah. It arrived twenty-fifth in the sequence, between Sūrat ʿAbasa and Sūrat al-Shams, and comprises either five or six verses depending on the counting traditions of classical centers like Kūfah and Shām.

The text moves swiftly to establish the magnitude of this event. It opens by attributing the revelation directly to Allah, then pivots to quantify the grace, declaring a single night superior to a thousand months. From there, the verses shift to the celestial, detailing the descent of the Angels and the Spirit carrying every divine decree.
