About Surah Al-Fath
The Prophet (ﷺ) declared this text "dearer to him than everything the sun shines upon," receiving it at night while returning from the Treaty of al-Ḥudaybiyyah. His Companions were frustrated, grieving their inability to perform the pilgrimage under the pact's harsh terms. These twenty-nine verses dispelled their sorrow, redefining the treaty as a "clear victory" (fatḥ) that guaranteed divine forgiveness and paved the way for Makkah's conquest.
The revelation opens by announcing tranquility for the faithful before exposing the cowardice of the Bedouins who deliberately stayed behind. After barring those hypocrites from the upcoming campaign at Khaybar, the text highlights the spiritual weight of the Pledge of Allegiance (bayʿat al-riḍwān) sworn under the tree, confirming the Prophet’s truthful vision of a peaceful return to Makkah.
The ultimate triumph transcends the treaty itself to describe the perfect attributes of those standing with the Messenger of Allah. Their faith is captured in a living image preserved in both the Torah and Gospel: a planted seed that sends out its shoot, grows strong, and stands thick upon its stem.
