About Surah Ghafir
The Prophet (ﷺ) stated that reading this text alongside Āyat al-Kursī provides protection until the evening. The sixtieth chapter in the chronological order of revelation, it bears three titles: Sūrat Ghāfir (The Forgiver), Sūrat al-Ṭawl (The Grace), and Sūrat Ḥā-Mīm al-Mu’min, naming its opening letters and the secret believer at its center. These eighty-five verses were sent down during intense persecution in Makkah following Abū Ṭālib's death.
The text opens by contrasting Allah’s infinite power and mercy with the pride of those who dispute His signs without proof. It moves into a detailed account of the believer in Pharaoh’s court who defended Moses, a narrative consoling the Prophet (ﷺ) while warning polytheists that Pharaoh’s fate awaits them. The verses then shift to the Resurrection, detailing how arrogant leaders will eventually disown their followers.
The later passages point to the provisions of creation as reasons for gratitude. A lasting command stands for the Prophet (ﷺ) to bear persecution with patience and affirm the ultimate truth of the Resurrection.
