About Surah As-Sajdah
The Prophet (ﷺ) would not sleep before reciting these thirty verses alongside Sūrat al-Mulk. Though widely named The Prostration, it has also been called Sūrat al-Maḍājiʿ—The Beds. This title emerges from its vivid portrait of believers forsaking sleep to pray, their humility striking against the arrogance of polytheists who mocked the Quran as a fabrication.
The argument unfolds through the visible world, moving from the vast governance of the heavens to the earliest origins of human life. It answers skeptics who deny the Resurrection by drawing a direct line between rain reviving barren earth and the certainty of our return. After establishing the vast reward awaiting the devoted and a nearer punishment for deniers, the text recalls Moses, assuring the Prophet (ﷺ) that opposition is not new.
Pointing to the silent ruins of destroyed nations still visible on the roads, the narrative confronts those who demand to know when the promised victory will arrive. Against their mockery, only a quiet command remains: turn away, and wait, just as they are waiting.
