About Surah An-Naml
Detailing Solomon’s magnificent dominion more extensively than anywhere else in the Quran, the 48th Makkan revelation challenges material arrogance. Revealed between al-Shuʿarā’ and al-Qaṣaṣ, it contrasts a prophet-led kingdom that commanded birds and ants with the destroyed civilization of Thamūd. Because it uniquely names these creatures, the text is titled The Ant or The Hoopoe, though some simply call it Sūrat Sulaymān.
The narrative opens by affirming its divine origin, challenging deniers with Moses before turning to the extraordinary knowledge of Dāwūd and Sulaymān. Moving through the kingdom of Saba and its queen, the focus shifts to warn of Thamūd's collapse. From these ruins, the verses pivot to prove the Resurrection, dismantling false claims to the unseen and detailing the signs of the Last Hour.
The argument concludes by positioning the Quran as a guardian over earlier scriptures, clarifying the disputes of the Israelites. The revelation lands on a final command to the Prophet to persist in conveying the message, leaving the assurance that Allah observes all actions and the signs of truth will inevitably be witnessed.
