About Surah Al-Furqan
Three times across its seventy-seven verses—at its beginning, middle, and end—this text refers to the Quran as Al-Furqan, The Criterion. Bearing this title since the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ), the surah arrived in Makkah as the forty-second revelation, between Ya-Sin and Fatir. It opens by building a defense of the revelation, establishing the Prophet (ﷺ) as a universal warner to all nations.
Moving through its arguments, the surah dismantles objections to the Prophet's humanity. It answers demands for worldly proofs and explains why the text was not revealed all at once. The verses firmly refute claims that Allah has a son or that angels are His daughters, while recalling the rejection faced by Moses, Noah, ʿAd, and Thamud to console the Prophet (ﷺ) against his mockers.
Beyond the histories of destroyed nations and warnings of impending punishment, the focus shifts to those who place their trust in Allah. The "Servants of the Most Merciful" stand in stark contrast to the rejecters, distinguished by a detailed set of spiritual and moral virtues that define the perfect believer.
