What did the Prophet ﷺ say about intentions?
Deeds are judged by their intentions, and each person will have what they intended. It is the first hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari, reported by ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab from the minbar.
إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ، وَإِنَّمَا لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى دُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا، أَوْ إِلَى امْرَأَةٍ يَنْكِحُهَا، فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ «صحيح البخاري» (١/ ٦) — البخاري (ت ٢٥٦هـ) · ط السلطانية · بدء الوحي
