Mīrāth at qurangallery.com/mirath is an Islamic inheritance calculator. You tell it who has passed away and which relatives survive them, and it works out exactly what share of the estate each heir receives — shown as a fraction, a percentage, and a money amount, with the Qurʾanic reasoning behind every figure.
What “mīrāth” and “farāʾiḍ” mean
Mīrāth is the Islamic law of inheritance: the rules by which a person’s wealth passes to their relatives after death. It is also called ʿilm al-farāʾiḍ — “the science of the fixed shares” — because at its heart is a set of precise fractions that the Qurʾan assigns to named relatives. A half, a quarter, an eighth, two thirds, a third, a sixth: each goes to a particular relative depending on who else is alive.
Getting it right matters. An error quietly takes from one heir what belongs to another, which is why the calculator works in exact fractions and always shows its evidence.
What the calculator does
- Works out each heir’s share for the family you describe, across all four Sunni schools of law (Ḥanafī, Mālikī, Shāfiʿī, and Ḥanbalī).
- Shows the share three ways — as a fraction, as a percentage, and (if you enter an estate value) as a money amount.
- Explains every number. Each heir’s share comes with a short note citing its basis — usually a verse of the Qurʾan.
- Handles the deductions first — debts, funeral costs, and a bequest (waṣiyya) — before dividing what remains.
- Shows who was excluded and why. When a nearer relative blocks a more distant one, the blocked heir is greyed out with the reason, so nothing is hidden.
An educational aid, not a fatwa
The calculator follows the classical Sunni rules and is checked against the answers in the standard books of farāʾiḍ. It is built to teach and to estimate — not to issue a binding ruling.
Inheritance is exact and the responsibility is serious. Always confirm a real, binding distribution with a qualified scholar before acting on it. The calculator is here to help you understand and prepare, not to replace that advice.
