فَتَنَّا
قَبۡلَهُمۡ
قَوۡمَ
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
وَجَآءَهُمۡ
رَسُولٞ
كَرِيمٌ

We tested the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them,

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
أَنۡ
أَدُّوٓاْ
إِلَيَّ
عِبَادَ
ٱللَّهِۖ
إِنِّي
لَكُمۡ
رَسُولٌ
أَمِينٞ
١٨
saying, ‘Hand the servants of God over to me! I am a faithful messenger who has been sent to you.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَأَن
لَّا
تَعۡلُواْ
عَلَى
ٱللَّهِۖ
إِنِّيٓ
ءَاتِيكُم
بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ
مُّبِينٖ
١٩
Do not consider yourselves to be above God! I come to you with clear authority.

وَإِنِّي
عُذۡتُ
بِرَبِّي
وَرَبِّكُمۡ
أَن
تَرۡجُمُونِ
٢٠
I seek refuge in my Lord and yours against your insults!
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَإِن
لَّمۡ
تُؤۡمِنُواْ
لِي
فَٱعۡتَزِلُونِ
٢١
If you do not believe me, just let me be.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَدَعَا
رَبَّهُۥٓ
أَنَّ
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
قَوۡمٞ
مُّجۡرِمُونَ
٢٢
[Moses] cried to his Lord, ‘These people are evildoers!’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَأَسۡرِ
بِعِبَادِي
لَيۡلًا
إِنَّكُم
مُّتَّبَعُونَ
٢٣
[God replied], ‘Escape in the night with My servants, for you are sure to be pursued.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱتۡرُكِ
ٱلۡبَحۡرَ
رَهۡوًاۖ
إِنَّهُمۡ
جُندٞ
مُّغۡرَقُونَ
٢٤
Leave the sea behind you parted and their army will be drowned.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
كَمۡ
تَرَكُواْ
مِن
جَنَّٰتٖ
وَعُيُونٖ
٢٥
Many a garden and spring they left behind,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَزُرُوعٖ
وَمَقَامٖ
كَرِيمٖ
٢٦
many a cornfield and noble building,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَنَعۡمَةٖ
كَانُواْ
فِيهَا
فَٰكِهِينَ
٢٧
many a thing in which they had delighted:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
كَذَٰلِكَۖ
وَأَوۡرَثۡنَٰهَا
قَوۡمًا
ءَاخَرِينَ
٢٨
We gave these to another people to inherit.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَمَا
بَكَتۡ
عَلَيۡهِمُ
ٱلسَّمَآءُ
وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ
وَمَا
كَانُواْ
مُنظَرِينَ
٢٩
Neither heavens nor earth shed a tear for them, nor were they given any time.

وَلَقَدۡ
نَجَّيۡنَا
بَنِيٓ
إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ
مِنَ
ٱلۡعَذَابِ
ٱلۡمُهِينِ
٣٠
We saved the Children of Israel from their degrading suffering
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
مِن
فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ
إِنَّهُۥ
كَانَ
عَالِيٗا
مِّنَ
ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ
٣١
at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَلَقَدِ
ٱخۡتَرۡنَٰهُمۡ
عَلَىٰ
عِلۡمٍ
عَلَى
ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
٣٢
We chose them knowingly above others:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم
مِّنَ
ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ
مَا
فِيهِ
بَلَٰٓؤٞاْ
مُّبِينٌ
٣٣
We gave them revelations in which there was a clear test.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
إِنَّ
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
لَيَقُولُونَ
٣٤
These people here assert,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
إِنۡ
هِيَ
إِلَّا
مَوۡتَتُنَا
ٱلۡأُولَىٰ
وَمَا
نَحۡنُ
بِمُنشَرِينَ
٣٥
‘There is nothing beyond our one death: we will not be resurrected.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَأۡتُواْ
بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ
إِن
كُنتُمۡ
صَٰدِقِينَ
٣٦
Bring back our forefathers, if what you say is true.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
