The Poets Meccan
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
تِلۡكَ
ءَايَٰتُ
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
ٱلۡمُبِينِ
٢
These are the verses of the Scripture that makes things clear:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
لَعَلَّكَ
بَٰخِعٞ
نَّفۡسَكَ
أَلَّا
يَكُونُواْ
مُؤۡمِنِينَ
٣
[Prophet], are you going to worry yourself to death because they will not believe?
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
إِن
نَّشَأۡ
نُنَزِّلۡ
عَلَيۡهِم
مِّنَ
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
ءَايَةٗ
فَظَلَّتۡ
أَعۡنَٰقُهُمۡ
لَهَا
خَٰضِعِينَ
٤
If We had wished, We could have sent them down a sign from heaven, at which their necks would stay bowed in utter humility.

وَمَا
يَأۡتِيهِم
مِّن
ذِكۡرٖ
مِّنَ
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ
مُحۡدَثٍ
إِلَّا
كَانُواْ
عَنۡهُ
مُعۡرِضِينَ
٥
Whenever they are brought a new revelation from the Lord of Mercy, they turn away:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَقَدۡ
كَذَّبُواْ
فَسَيَأۡتِيهِمۡ
أَنۢبَٰٓؤُاْ
مَا
كَانُواْ
بِهِۦ
يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
٦
they deny it, but the truth of what they scorned will soon hit them.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
أَوَلَمۡ
يَرَوۡاْ
إِلَى
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
كَمۡ
أَنۢبَتۡنَا
فِيهَا
مِن
كُلِّ
زَوۡجٖ
كَرِيمٍ
٧
Do they not see the earth, and what noble kinds of thing We grow in it?
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
إِنَّ
فِي
ذَٰلِكَ
لَأٓيَةٗۖ
وَمَا
كَانَ
أَكۡثَرُهُم
مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
٨
There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَإِنَّ
رَبَّكَ
لَهُوَ
ٱلۡعَزِيزُ
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
٩
your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَإِذۡ
نَادَىٰ
رَبُّكَ
مُوسَىٰٓ
أَنِ
ٱئۡتِ
ٱلۡقَوۡمَ
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
١٠
Your Lord called to Moses: ‘Go to those wrongdoers,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَوۡمَ
فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ
أَلَا
يَتَّقُونَ
١١
the people of Pharaoh. Will they not take heed?’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالَ
رَبِّ
إِنِّيٓ
أَخَافُ
أَن
يُكَذِّبُونِ
١٢
Moses said, ‘My Lord, I fear they will call me a liar,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَيَضِيقُ
صَدۡرِي
وَلَا
يَنطَلِقُ
لِسَانِي
فَأَرۡسِلۡ
إِلَىٰ
هَٰرُونَ
١٣
and I will feel stressed and tongue-tied, so send Aaron too;
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَلَهُمۡ
عَلَيَّ
ذَنۢبٞ
فَأَخَافُ
أَن
يَقۡتُلُونِ
١٤
besides, they have a chargeagainst me, and I fear they may kill me.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالَ
كـَلَّاۖ
فَٱذۡهَبَا
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآۖ
إِنَّا
مَعَكُم
مُّسۡتَمِعُونَ
١٥
God said, ‘No [they will not]. Go, both of you, with Our signs––We shall be with you, listen-ing.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَأۡتِيَا
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
فَقُولَآ
إِنَّا
رَسُولُ
رَبِّ
ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
١٦
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh and say, “We bring a message from the Lord of the Worlds:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
أَنۡ
أَرۡسِلۡ
مَعَنَا
بَنِيٓ
إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ
١٧
let the Children of Israel leave with us.” ’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالَ
أَلَمۡ
نُرَبِّكَ
فِينَا
وَلِيدٗا
وَلَبِثۡتَ
فِينَا
مِنۡ
عُمُرِكَ
سِنِينَ
١٨
Pharaoh said, ‘Did we not bring you up as a child among us? Did you not stay with us for many years?
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَفَعَلۡتَ
فَعۡلَتَكَ
ٱلَّتِي
فَعَلۡتَ
وَأَنتَ
مِنَ
ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
١٩
And then you committed that crime of yours: you were so ungrateful.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَالَ
فَعَلۡتُهَآ
إِذٗا
وَأَنَا۠
مِنَ
ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
٢٠
Moses replied, ‘I was misguided when I did it
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
