The messenger said, ‘Even though I bring you a truer religion than what you saw your fathers following?’ and they replied, ‘But we do not believe the message you bring.’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا
مِنۡهُمۡۖ
فَٱنظُرۡ
كَيۡفَ
كَانَ
عَٰقِبَةُ
ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
٢٥
We punished them: think about how those who rejected the Truth met their end.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَإِذۡ
قَالَ
إِبۡرَٰهِيمُ
لِأَبِيهِ
وَقَوۡمِهِۦٓ
إِنَّنِي
بَرَآءٞ
مِّمَّا
تَعۡبُدُونَ
٢٦
Abraham said to his father and his people, ‘I renounce what you worship.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

إِلَّا
ٱلَّذِي
فَطَرَنِي
فَإِنَّهُۥ
سَيَهۡدِينِ
٢٧
I worship only Him who created me, and it is He who will guide me,’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَجَعَلَهَا
كَلِمَةَۢ
بَاقِيَةٗ
فِي
عَقِبِهِۦ
لَعَلَّهُمۡ
يَرۡجِعُونَ
٢٨
and he bequeathed these words to his descendants so that they might return [to God].

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

بَلۡ
مَتَّعۡتُ
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
وَءَابَآءَهُمۡ
حَتَّىٰ
جَآءَهُمُ
ٱلۡحَقُّ
وَرَسُولٞ
مُّبِينٞ
٢٩
I have let these people and their fathers enjoy long lives, and now I have given them the Truth and a messenger to make things clear-

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلَمَّا
جَآءَهُمُ
ٱلۡحَقُّ
قَالُواْ
هَٰذَا
سِحۡرٞ
وَإِنَّا
بِهِۦ
كَٰفِرُونَ
٣٠
yet when the Truth came to them, they said, ‘This is sorcery. We do not believe in it,’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَقَالُواْ
لَوۡلَا
نُزِّلَ
هَٰذَا
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ
عَلَىٰ
رَجُلٖ
مِّنَ
ٱلۡقَرۡيَتَيۡنِ
عَظِيمٍ
٣١
and they said, ‘Why was this Quran not sent down to a distinguished man, from either of the two cities?’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَهُمۡ
يَقۡسِمُونَ
رَحۡمَتَ
رَبِّكَۚ
نَحۡنُ
قَسَمۡنَا
بَيۡنَهُم
مَّعِيشَتَهُمۡ
فِي
ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ
ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ
وَرَفَعۡنَا
بَعۡضَهُمۡ
فَوۡقَ
بَعۡضٖ
دَرَجَٰتٖ
لِّيَتَّخِذَ
بَعۡضُهُم
بَعۡضٗا
سُخۡرِيّٗاۗ
وَرَحۡمَتُ
رَبِّكَ
خَيۡرٞ
مِّمَّا
يَجۡمَعُونَ
٣٢
Are they the ones who share out your Lord’s grace? We are the ones who give them their share of livelihood in this world and We have raised some of them above others in rank, so that some may take others into service: your Lord’s grace is better than anything they accumulate.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلَوۡلَآ
أَن
يَكُونَ
ٱلنَّاسُ
أُمَّةٗ
وَٰحِدَةٗ
لَّجَعَلۡنَا
لِمَن
يَكۡفُرُ
بِٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ
لِبُيُوتِهِمۡ
سُقُفٗا
مِّن
فِضَّةٖ
وَمَعَارِجَ
عَلَيۡهَا
يَظۡهَرُونَ
٣٣
If it were not that all mankind might have become a single nation [of disbelievers], We could have given all those who disbelieve in the Lord of Mercy houses with roofs of silver, sweeping staircases to ascend,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمۡ
أَبۡوَٰبٗا
وَسُرُرًا
عَلَيۡهَا
يَتَّكِـُٔونَ
٣٤
massive gates, couches to sit on,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَزُخۡرُفٗاۚ
وَإِن
كُلُّ
ذَٰلِكَ
لَمَّا
مَتَٰعُ
ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ
ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ
وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ
عِندَ
رَبِّكَ
لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ
٣٥
and golden ornaments. All of these are mere enjoyments of this life; your Lord reserves the next life for those who take heed of Him.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَمَن
يَعۡشُ
عَن
ذِكۡرِ
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ
نُقَيِّضۡ
لَهُۥ
شَيۡطَٰنٗا
فَهُوَ
لَهُۥ
قَرِينٞ
٣٦
We assign an evil one as a comrade for whoever turns away from the revelations of the Lord of Mercy:

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَإِنَّهُمۡ
لَيَصُدُّونَهُمۡ
عَنِ
ٱلسَّبِيلِ
وَيَحۡسَبُونَ
أَنَّهُم
مُّهۡتَدُونَ
٣٧
evil ones bar people from the right path, even though they may think they are well guided.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

حَتَّىٰٓ
إِذَا
جَآءَنَا
قَالَ
يَٰلَيۡتَ
بَيۡنِي
وَبَيۡنَكَ
بُعۡدَ
ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِ
فَبِئۡسَ
ٱلۡقَرِينُ
٣٨
When such a person comes to Us, he will say [to his comrade], ‘If only you had been as far away from me as east is from west. What an evil comrade!’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلَن
يَنفَعَكُمُ
ٱلۡيَوۡمَ
إِذ
ظَّلَمۡتُمۡ
أَنَّكُمۡ
فِي
ٱلۡعَذَابِ
مُشۡتَرِكُونَ
٣٩
[It will be said to them], ‘You have done wrong. Having partners in punishment will not console you today.’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَفَأَنتَ
تُسۡمِعُ
ٱلصُّمَّ
أَوۡ
تَهۡدِي
ٱلۡعُمۡيَ
وَمَن
كَانَ
فِي
ضَلَٰلٖ
مُّبِينٖ
٤٠
Can you [Prophet] make the deaf hear? Or guide either the blind or those who are in gross error?

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَإِمَّا
نَذۡهَبَنَّ
بِكَ
فَإِنَّا
مِنۡهُم
مُّنتَقِمُونَ
٤١
Either We shall take you away and punish them- indeed We will-

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَوۡ
نُرِيَنَّكَ
ٱلَّذِي
وَعَدۡنَٰهُمۡ
فَإِنَّا
عَلَيۡهِم
مُّقۡتَدِرُونَ
٤٢
or We shall let you witness the punishment We threatened them with; We have full power over them.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَٱسۡتَمۡسِكۡ
بِٱلَّذِيٓ
أُوحِيَ
إِلَيۡكَۖ
إِنَّكَ
عَلَىٰ
صِرَٰطٖ
مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ
٤٣
Hold fast to what has been revealed to you- you truly are on the right path-

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَإِنَّهُۥ
لَذِكۡرٞ
لَّكَ
وَلِقَوۡمِكَۖ
وَسَوۡفَ
تُسۡـَٔلُونَ
٤٤
for it is a reminder for you and your people: you will all be questioned.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَسۡـَٔلۡ
مَنۡ
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
مِن
قَبۡلِكَ
مِن
رُّسُلِنَآ
أَجَعَلۡنَا
مِن
دُونِ
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ
ءَالِهَةٗ
يُعۡبَدُونَ
٤٥
Ask the prophets We sent before you: ‘Did We ever appoint any gods to be worshipped besides the Lord of Mercy?’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلَقَدۡ
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
مُوسَىٰ
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ
إِلَىٰ
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
وَمَلَإِيْهِۦ
فَقَالَ
إِنِّي
رَسُولُ
رَبِّ
ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
٤٦
We sent Moses to Pharaoh and his courtiers and he said, ‘I am truly a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds,’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَلَمَّا
جَآءَهُم
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ
إِذَا
هُم
مِّنۡهَا
يَضۡحَكُونَ
٤٧
but when he presented Our signs to them, they laughed,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَمَا
نُرِيهِم
مِّنۡ
ءَايَةٍ
إِلَّا
هِيَ
أَكۡبَرُ
مِنۡ
أُخۡتِهَاۖ
وَأَخَذۡنَٰهُم
بِٱلۡعَذَابِ
لَعَلَّهُمۡ
يَرۡجِعُونَ
٤٨
even though each sign We showed them was greater than the previous one. We inflicted torment on them so that they might return to the right path.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَقَالُواْ
يَٰٓأَيُّهَ
ٱلسَّاحِرُ
ٱدۡعُ
لَنَا
رَبَّكَ
بِمَا
عَهِدَ
عِندَكَ
إِنَّنَا
لَمُهۡتَدُونَ
٤٩
They said, ‘Sorcerer, call on your Lord for us, by virtue of His pledge to you: we shall certainly accept guidance,’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَلَمَّا
كَشَفۡنَا
عَنۡهُمُ
ٱلۡعَذَابَ
إِذَا
هُمۡ
يَنكُثُونَ
٥٠
but as soon as We relieved their torment they broke their word.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَنَادَىٰ
فِرۡعَوۡنُ
فِي
قَوۡمِهِۦ
قَالَ
يَٰقَوۡمِ
أَلَيۡسَ
لِي
مُلۡكُ
مِصۡرَ
وَهَٰذِهِ
ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ
تَجۡرِي
مِن
تَحۡتِيٓۚ
أَفَلَا
تُبۡصِرُونَ
٥١
Pharaoh proclaimed to his people, ‘My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see?

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَمۡ
أَنَا۠
خَيۡرٞ
مِّنۡ
هَٰذَا
ٱلَّذِي
هُوَ
مَهِينٞ
وَلَا
يَكَادُ
يُبِينُ
٥٢
Am I not better than this contemptible wretch who can scarcely express himself?

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَلَوۡلَآ
أُلۡقِيَ
عَلَيۡهِ
أَسۡوِرَةٞ
مِّن
ذَهَبٍ
أَوۡ
جَآءَ
مَعَهُ
ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ
مُقۡتَرِنِينَ
٥٣
Why has he not been given any gold bracelets? Why have no angels come to accompany him?’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ
قَوۡمَهُۥ
فَأَطَاعُوهُۚ
إِنَّهُمۡ
كَانُواْ
قَوۡمٗا
فَٰسِقِينَ
٥٤
In this way he moved his people to accept and they obeyed him- they were perverse people.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَلَمَّآ
ءَاسَفُونَا
ٱنتَقَمۡنَا
مِنۡهُمۡ
فَأَغۡرَقۡنَٰهُمۡ
أَجۡمَعِينَ
٥٥
When they provoked Us, We punished and drowned them all:

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ
سَلَفٗا
وَمَثَلٗا
لِّلۡأٓخِرِينَ
٥٦
We made them a lesson and an example for later people.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
