Surah Al-Hijr (The Rocky Tract) — 99 verses
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
15:2
رُّبَمَا
يَوَدُّ
ٱلَّذِينَ
كَفَرُواْ
لَوۡ
كَانُواْ
مُسۡلِمِينَ
٢
The disbelievers may well come to wish they had submitted to God,

15:3
ذَرۡهُمۡ
يَأۡكُلُواْ
وَيَتَمَتَّعُواْ
وَيُلۡهِهِمُ
ٱلۡأَمَلُۖ
فَسَوۡفَ
يَعۡلَمُونَ
٣
so [Prophet] leave them to eat and enjoy themselves. Let [false] hopes distract them: they will come to know.

15:4
وَمَآ
أَهۡلَكۡنَا
مِن
قَرۡيَةٍ
إِلَّا
وَلَهَا
كِتَابٞ
مَّعۡلُومٞ
٤
Never have We destroyed a community that did not have a set time;

15:5
مَّا
تَسۡبِقُ
مِنۡ
أُمَّةٍ
أَجَلَهَا
وَمَا
يَسۡتَـٔۡخِرُونَ
٥
no community can bring its time forward, nor delay it.

15:6
وَقَالُواْ
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
ٱلَّذِي
نُزِّلَ
عَلَيۡهِ
ٱلذِّكۡرُ
إِنَّكَ
لَمَجۡنُونٞ
٦
They say, ‘Receiver of this Quran! You are definitely mad.

15:7
لَّوۡ
مَا
تَأۡتِينَا
بِٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
إِن
كُنتَ
مِنَ
ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
٧
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you are telling the truth?’

15:8
مَا
نُنَزِّلُ
ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ
إِلَّا
بِٱلۡحَقِّ
وَمَا
كَانُوٓاْ
إِذٗا
مُّنظَرِينَ
٨
But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then these people will not be reprieved.

15:9
إِنَّا
نَحۡنُ
نَزَّلۡنَا
ٱلذِّكۡرَ
وَإِنَّا
لَهُۥ
لَحَٰفِظُونَ
٩
We have sent down the Quran Ourself, and We Ourself will guard it. Even before you [Prophet],

15:10
وَلَقَدۡ
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
مِن
قَبۡلِكَ
فِي
شِيَعِ
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
١٠
We sent messengers among the various communities of old,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
15:11
وَمَا
يَأۡتِيهِم
مِّن
رَّسُولٍ
إِلَّا
كَانُواْ
بِهِۦ
يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
١١
but they mocked every single messenger that came to them:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
15:12
كَذَٰلِكَ
نَسۡلُكُهُۥ
فِي
قُلُوبِ
ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
١٢
in this way We make the message slip through the hearts of evildoers.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
15:13
لَا
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
بِهِۦ
وَقَدۡ
خَلَتۡ
سُنَّةُ
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
١٣
They will not believe in it. That was what happened with the peoples of long ago,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
15:14
وَلَوۡ
فَتَحۡنَا
عَلَيۡهِم
بَابٗا
مِّنَ
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
فَظَلُّواْ
فِيهِ
يَعۡرُجُونَ
١٤
and even if We opened a gateway into Heaven for them and they rose through it, higher and higher,

15:15
لَقَالُوٓاْ
إِنَّمَا
سُكِّرَتۡ
أَبۡصَٰرُنَا
بَلۡ
نَحۡنُ
قَوۡمٞ
مَّسۡحُورُونَ
١٥
they would still say, ‘Our eyes are hallucinating. We are bewitched.’

15:16
وَلَقَدۡ
جَعَلۡنَا
فِي
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
بُرُوجٗا
وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا
لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ
١٦
We have set constellations up in the sky and made it beautiful for all to see,

15:17
وَحَفِظۡنَٰهَا
مِن
كُلِّ
شَيۡطَٰنٖ
رَّجِيمٍ
١٧
and guarded it from every stoned satan:

15:18
إِلَّا
مَنِ
ٱسۡتَرَقَ
ٱلسَّمۡعَ
فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ
شِهَابٞ
مُّبِينٞ
١٨
any eavesdropper will be pursued by a clearly visible flame.

15:19
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ
مَدَدۡنَٰهَا
وَأَلۡقَيۡنَا
فِيهَا
رَوَٰسِيَ
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا
فِيهَا
مِن
كُلِّ
شَيۡءٖ
مَّوۡزُونٖ
١٩
As for the earth, We have spread it out, set firm mountains on it, and made everything grow there in due balance.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
15:20
وَجَعَلۡنَا
لَكُمۡ
فِيهَا
مَعَٰيِشَ
وَمَن
لَّسۡتُمۡ
لَهُۥ
بِرَٰزِقِينَ
٢٠
We have provided sustenance in it for you and for all those creatures for whom you do not provide.
