وَٱلشَّمۡسِ
وَضُحَىٰهَا

By the sun in its morning brightness

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ
إِذَا
تَلَىٰهَا
٢
and by the moon as it follows it,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱلنَّهَارِ
إِذَا
جَلَّىٰهَا
٣
by the day as it displays the sun’s glory
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱلَّيۡلِ
إِذَا
يَغۡشَىٰهَا
٤
and by the night as it conceals it,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ
وَمَا
بَنَىٰهَا
٥
by the sky and how He built it
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ
وَمَا
طَحَىٰهَا
٦
and by the earth and how He spread it,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَنَفۡسٖ
وَمَا
سَوَّىٰهَا
٧
by the soul and how He formed it
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَأَلۡهَمَهَا
فُجُورَهَا
وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا
٨
and inspired it [to know] its own rebellion and piety!
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
قَدۡ
أَفۡلَحَ
مَن
زَكَّىٰهَا
٩
The one who purifies his soul succeeds
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَقَدۡ
خَابَ
مَن
دَسَّىٰهَا
١٠
and the one who corrupts it fails.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
كَذَّبَتۡ
ثَمُودُ
بِطَغۡوَىٰهَآ
١١
In their arrogant cruelty, the people of Thamud called [their messenger] a liar,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
إِذِ
ٱنۢبَعَثَ
أَشۡقَىٰهَا
١٢
when the most wicked man among them rose [against him].
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَقَالَ
لَهُمۡ
رَسُولُ
ٱللَّهِ
نَاقَةَ
ٱللَّهِ
وَسُقۡيَٰهَا
١٣
The messenger of God said to them, ‘[Leave] God’s camel to drink,’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَكَذَّبُوهُ
فَعَقَرُوهَا
فَدَمۡدَمَ
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
رَبُّهُم
بِذَنۢبِهِمۡ
فَسَوَّىٰهَا
١٤
but they called him a liar and hamstrung her. Their Lord destroyed them for their crime and levelled them.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَلَا
يَخَافُ
عُقۡبَٰهَا
١٥
He did not hesitate to punish them.
