Remember when Moses prayed for water for his people and We said to him, ‘Strike the rock with your staff.’ Twelve springs gushed out, and each group knew its drinking place. ‘Eat and drink the sustenance God has provided and do not cause corruption in the land.’
God wishes to lighten your burden; man was created weak.
The only response his people gave was to say [to one another], ‘Drive them out of your town! These men want to keep themselves chaste!’
We divided them into twelve tribes [as distinct] communities, and, when his people asked him for water, inspired Moses to strike the rock with his staff [so that] twelve springs gushed out. Each tribe knew its own drinking place; We gave them the shade of clouds and sent down to them manna and quails [saying], ‘Eat the good things We have provided for you.’ They did not wrong Us; it was themselves they wronged.
When trouble befalls man he cries out to Us, whether lying on his side, sitting, or standing, but as soon as We relieve him of his trouble he goes on his way as if he had never cried out to Us to remove his trouble. In this way the deeds of such heedless people are made attractive to them.
How desperate and ungrateful man becomes when We let him taste Our mercy and then withhold it!
- 12:5 Yusuf لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ لَا تَقْصُصْ رُءْيَاكَ عَلَىٰٓ إِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُوا۟ لَكَ كَيْدًا ۖ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ and he replied, ‘My son, tell your brothers nothing of this dream, or they may plot to harm you––Satan is man’s sworn enemy.
- 14:34 Ibrahim ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَءَاتَىٰكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَظَلُومٌ كَفَّارٌ and given you some of everything you asked Him for. If you tried to count God’s favours you could never calculate them: man is truly unjust and ungrateful.
We created man out of dried clay formed from dark mud-
He created man from a drop of fluid, and yet man openly challenges Him.
Yet man prays for harm, just as he prays for good: man is ever hasty.
We have bound each human being’s destiny to his neck. On the Day of Resurrection, We shall bring out a record for each of them, which they will find spread wide open,
[Prophet], tell My servants to say what is best. Satan sows discord among them: Satan is a sworn enemy of man.
When you get into distress at sea, those you pray to besides Him desert you, but when He brings you back safe to land you turn away: man is ever ungrateful.
On the Day when We summon each community, along with its leader, those who are given their record in their right hand will read it [with pleasure]. But no one will be wronged in the least:
When We favour man he turns arrogantly to one side, but when harm touches him, he falls into despair.
Say, ‘If you possessed the very stores of my Lord’s bounty, you would hold them back in your fear of spending: man is ever grudging.’
In this Quran We have presented every kind of description for people but man is more contentious than any other creature.
Man says, ‘What? Once I am dead, will I be brought back to life?’
- 19:67 Maryam ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَوَلَا يَذْكُرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ يَكُ شَيْـًٔا but does man not remember that We created him when he was nothing before?
Man was created hasty: I will show you My signs soon, so do not ask Me to hasten them.
- 22:66 Al-Hajj ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَحْيَاكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَكَفُورٌ it is He who gave you [people] life, will cause you to die, then will give you life again- but man is ungrateful.
We created man from an essence of clay,
- 25:29 Al-Furqan لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ لَّقَدْ أَضَلَّنِى عَنِ ٱلذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ جَآءَنِى ۗ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ خَذُولًا he led me away from the Revelation after it reached me. Satan has always betrayed mankind.’
- 25:49 Al-Furqan وَأَنَاسِىَّ لِّنُحْـِۧىَ بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا وَنُسْقِيَهُۥ مِمَّا خَلَقْنَآ أَنْعَـٰمًا وَأَنَاسِىَّ كَثِيرًا so that We can revive a dead land with it, and We give it as a drink to many animals and people We have created.
The only answer his people gave was to say, ‘Expel Lot’s followers from your town! These men mean to stay chaste!’
We have commanded people to be good to their parents, but do not obey them if they strive to make you serve, beside Me, anything of which you have no knowledge: you will all return to Me, and I shall inform you of what you have done.
We have commanded people to be good to their parents: their mothers carried them, with strain upon strain, and it takes two years to wean them. Give thanks to Me and to your parents- all will return to Me.
- 32:7 As-Sajdah ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَحْسَنَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ ۖ وَبَدَأَ خَلْقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ مِن طِينٍ who gave everything its perfect form. He first created man from clay,
We offered the Trust to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains, yet they refused to undertake it and were afraid of it; mankind undertook it- they have always been inept and foolish.
Can man not see that We created him from a drop of fluid? Yet- lo and behold!- he disputes openly,
When man suffers some affliction, he prays to his Lord and turns to Him, but once he has been granted a favour from God, he forgets the One he had been praying to and sets up rivals to God, to make others stray from His path. Say, ‘Enjoy your ingratitude for a little while: you will be one of the inhabitants of the Fire.’
When man suffers some affliction, he cries out to Us, but when We favour him with Our blessing, he says, ‘All this has been given to me because of my knowledge’- it is only a test, though most of them do not know it.
Man never tires of asking for good, but if evil touches him he loses all hope and becomes despondent.
Whenever We are gracious to man, he goes away haughtily, but, as soon as evil touches him, he turns to prolonged prayer.
If they still turn away [remember that], We have not sent you [Prophet] to be their guardian: your only duty is to deliver the message. When We give man a taste of Our mercy, he rejoices in it, but if some harm befalls him on account of what he has done with his own hands, then he is ungrateful.
Yet they assign some of His own servants to Him as offspring!Man is clearly ungrateful!
We have commanded man to be good to his parents: his mother struggled to carry him and struggled to give birth to him- his bearing and weaning took a full thirty months. When he has grown to manhood and reached the age of forty he [may] say, ‘Lord, help me to be truly grateful for Your favours to me and to my parents; help me to do good work that pleases You; make my offspring good. I turn to You; I am one of those who devote themselves to You.’
We created man––We know what his soul whispers to him: We are closer to him than his jugular vein––
Is man to have everything he wishes for,
- 53:39 An-Najm لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ that man will only have what he has worked towards;
He created man
He created mankind out of dried clay, like pottery,
Like Satan, who says to man, ‘Do not believe!’ but when man disbelieves, says, ‘I disown you; I fear God, the Lord of the Worlds,’
Man was truly created anxious:
Does man think We shall not put his bones back together?
Yet man wants to deny what is ahead of him:
- 75:10 Al-Qiyamah ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ on that Day man will say, ‘Where can I escape?’
On that Day, man will be told what he put first and what he put last.
Truly, man is a clear witness against himself,
