Surah Al-Hijr (The Rocky Tract) — 99 verses
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
رُّبَمَا
يَوَدُّ
ٱلَّذِينَ
كَفَرُواْ
لَوۡ
كَانُواْ
مُسۡلِمِينَ
٢
The disbelievers may well come to wish they had submitted to God,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
ذَرۡهُمۡ
يَأۡكُلُواْ
وَيَتَمَتَّعُواْ
وَيُلۡهِهِمُ
ٱلۡأَمَلُۖ
فَسَوۡفَ
يَعۡلَمُونَ
٣
so [Prophet] leave them to eat and enjoy themselves. Let [false] hopes distract them: they will come to know.

وَمَآ
أَهۡلَكۡنَا
مِن
قَرۡيَةٍ
إِلَّا
وَلَهَا
كِتَابٞ
مَّعۡلُومٞ
٤
Never have We destroyed a community that did not have a set time;
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
مَّا
تَسۡبِقُ
مِنۡ
أُمَّةٍ
أَجَلَهَا
وَمَا
يَسۡتَـٔۡخِرُونَ
٥
no community can bring its time forward, nor delay it.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَقَالُواْ
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
ٱلَّذِي
نُزِّلَ
عَلَيۡهِ
ٱلذِّكۡرُ
إِنَّكَ
لَمَجۡنُونٞ
٦
They say, ‘Receiver of this Quran! You are definitely mad.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
لَّوۡ
مَا
تَأۡتِينَا
بِٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
إِن
كُنتَ
مِنَ
ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
٧
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you are telling the truth?’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
مَا
نُنَزِّلُ
ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ
إِلَّا
بِٱلۡحَقِّ
وَمَا
كَانُوٓاْ
إِذٗا
مُّنظَرِينَ
٨
But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then these people will not be reprieved.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
إِنَّا
نَحۡنُ
نَزَّلۡنَا
ٱلذِّكۡرَ
وَإِنَّا
لَهُۥ
لَحَٰفِظُونَ
٩
We have sent down the Quran Ourself, and We Ourself will guard it. Even before you [Prophet],
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَلَقَدۡ
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
مِن
قَبۡلِكَ
فِي
شِيَعِ
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
١٠
We sent messengers among the various communities of old,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَمَا
يَأۡتِيهِم
مِّن
رَّسُولٍ
إِلَّا
كَانُواْ
بِهِۦ
يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
١١
but they mocked every single messenger that came to them:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
كَذَٰلِكَ
نَسۡلُكُهُۥ
فِي
قُلُوبِ
ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
١٢
in this way We make the message slip through the hearts of evildoers.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
لَا
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
بِهِۦ
وَقَدۡ
خَلَتۡ
سُنَّةُ
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
١٣
They will not believe in it. That was what happened with the peoples of long ago,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَلَوۡ
فَتَحۡنَا
عَلَيۡهِم
بَابٗا
مِّنَ
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
فَظَلُّواْ
فِيهِ
يَعۡرُجُونَ
١٤
and even if We opened a gateway into Heaven for them and they rose through it, higher and higher,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
لَقَالُوٓاْ
إِنَّمَا
سُكِّرَتۡ
أَبۡصَٰرُنَا
بَلۡ
نَحۡنُ
قَوۡمٞ
مَّسۡحُورُونَ
١٥
they would still say, ‘Our eyes are hallucinating. We are bewitched.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَلَقَدۡ
جَعَلۡنَا
فِي
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
بُرُوجٗا
وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا
لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ
١٦
We have set constellations up in the sky and made it beautiful for all to see,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَحَفِظۡنَٰهَا
مِن
كُلِّ
شَيۡطَٰنٖ
رَّجِيمٍ
١٧
and guarded it from every stoned satan:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
إِلَّا
مَنِ
ٱسۡتَرَقَ
ٱلسَّمۡعَ
فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ
شِهَابٞ
مُّبِينٞ
١٨
any eavesdropper will be pursued by a clearly visible flame.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ
مَدَدۡنَٰهَا
وَأَلۡقَيۡنَا
فِيهَا
رَوَٰسِيَ
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا
فِيهَا
مِن
كُلِّ
شَيۡءٖ
مَّوۡزُونٖ
١٩
As for the earth, We have spread it out, set firm mountains on it, and made everything grow there in due balance.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَجَعَلۡنَا
لَكُمۡ
فِيهَا
مَعَٰيِشَ
وَمَن
لَّسۡتُمۡ
لَهُۥ
بِرَٰزِقِينَ
٢٠
We have provided sustenance in it for you and for all those creatures for whom you do not provide.
