Surah Al-Qiyamah (The Resurrection) — 40 verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

لَآ
أُقۡسِمُ
بِيَوۡمِ
ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ
١
By the Day of Resurrection

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلَآ
أُقۡسِمُ
بِٱلنَّفۡسِ
ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
٢
and by the self-reproaching soul!

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَيَحۡسَبُ
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ
أَلَّن
نَّجۡمَعَ
عِظَامَهُۥ
٣
Does man think We shall not put his bones back together?

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

بَلَىٰ
قَٰدِرِينَ
عَلَىٰٓ
أَن
نُّسَوِّيَ
بَنَانَهُۥ
٤
In fact, We can reshape his very fingertips.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

بَلۡ
يُرِيدُ
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ
لِيَفۡجُرَ
أَمَامَهُۥ
٥
Yet man wants to deny what is ahead of him:

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

يَسۡـَٔلُ
أَيَّانَ
يَوۡمُ
ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ
٦
he says, ‘So, when will this Day of Resurrection be?’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَإِذَا
بَرِقَ
ٱلۡبَصَرُ
٧
When eyes are dazzled

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَخَسَفَ
ٱلۡقَمَرُ
٨
and the moon eclipsed,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَجُمِعَ
ٱلشَّمۡسُ
وَٱلۡقَمَرُ
٩
when the sun and the moon are brought together,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

يَقُولُ
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
أَيۡنَ
ٱلۡمَفَرُّ
١٠
on that Day man will say, ‘Where can I escape?’

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

كـَلَّا
لَا
وَزَرَ
١١
Truly, there is no refuge:

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

إِلَىٰ
رَبِّكَ
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
ٱلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ
١٢
they will all return to your Lord on that Day.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

يُنَبَّؤُاْ
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ
يَوۡمَئِذِۭ
بِمَا
قَدَّمَ
وَأَخَّرَ
١٣
On that Day, man will be told what he put first and what he put last.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

بَلِ
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ
عَلَىٰ
نَفۡسِهِۦ
بَصِيرَةٞ
١٤
Truly, man is a clear witness against himself,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلَوۡ
أَلۡقَىٰ
مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
١٥
despite all the excuses he may put forward.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

لَا
تُحَرِّكۡ
بِهِۦ
لِسَانَكَ
لِتَعۡجَلَ
بِهِۦٓ
١٦
[Prophet], do not rush your tongue in an attempt to hasten [your memorization of] the Revelation:

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

إِنَّ
عَلَيۡنَا
جَمۡعَهُۥ
وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ
١٧
We shall make sure of its safe collection and recitation.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَإِذَا
قَرَأۡنَٰهُ
فَٱتَّبِعۡ
قُرۡءَانَهُۥ
١٨
When We have recited it, repeat the recitation

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

ثُمَّ
إِنَّ
عَلَيۡنَا
بَيَانَهُۥ
١٩
and We shall make it clear.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

كـَلَّا
بَلۡ
تُحِبُّونَ
ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ
٢٠
Truly you [people] love this fleeting world

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَتَذَرُونَ
ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ
٢١
and neglect the life to come.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وُجُوهٞ
يَوۡمَئِذٖ
نَّاضِرَةٌ
٢٢
On that Day there will be radiant faces,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

إِلَىٰ
رَبِّهَا
نَاظِرَةٞ
٢٣
looking towards their Lord,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَوُجُوهٞ
يَوۡمَئِذِۭ
بَاسِرَةٞ
٢٤
and on that Day there will be the sad and despairing faces

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

تَظُنُّ
أَن
يُفۡعَلَ
بِهَا
فَاقِرَةٞ
٢٥
of those who realize that a great calamity is about to befall them.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

كـَلَّآ
إِذَا
بَلَغَتِ
ٱلتَّرَاقِيَ
٢٦
Truly, when the soul reaches the collarbone;

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَقِيلَ
مَنۡۜ
رَاقٖ
٢٧
when it is said, ‘Could any charm-healer save him now?’;

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَظَنَّ
أَنَّهُ
ٱلۡفِرَاقُ
٢٨
when he knows it is the final parting;

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَٱلۡتَفَّتِ
ٱلسَّاقُ
بِٱلسَّاقِ
٢٩
when his legs are brought together:

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

إِلَىٰ
رَبِّكَ
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
ٱلۡمَسَاقُ
٣٠
on that day he will be driven towards your Lord.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَلَا
صَدَّقَ
وَلَا
صَلَّىٰ
٣١
He neither believed nor prayed,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

وَلَٰكِن
كَذَّبَ
وَتَوَلَّىٰ
٣٢
but denied the truth and turned away,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

ثُمَّ
ذَهَبَ
إِلَىٰٓ
أَهۡلِهِۦ
يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
٣٣
walking back to his people with a conceited swagger.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَوۡلَىٰ
لَكَ
فَأَوۡلَىٰ
٣٤
Closer and closer it comes to you.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

ثُمَّ
أَوۡلَىٰ
لَكَ
فَأَوۡلَىٰٓ
٣٥
Closer and closer still.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَيَحۡسَبُ
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ
أَن
يُتۡرَكَ
سُدًى
٣٦
Does man think he will be left alone?

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَلَمۡ
يَكُ
نُطۡفَةٗ
مِّن
مَّنِيّٖ
يُمۡنَىٰ
٣٧
Was he not just a drop of spilt-out sperm,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

ثُمَّ
كَانَ
عَلَقَةٗ
فَخَلَقَ
فَسَوَّىٰ
٣٨
which became a clinging form, which God shaped in due proportion,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

فَجَعَلَ
مِنۡهُ
ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ
ٱلذَّكَرَ
وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ
٣٩
fashioning from it the two sexes, male and female?

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

أَلَيۡسَ
ذَٰلِكَ
بِقَٰدِرٍ
عَلَىٰٓ
أَن
يُحۡـِۧيَ
ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ
٤٠
Does He who can do this not have the power to bring the dead back to life?
