Five Requests Between the Two Prostrations

English

O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, guide me, and provide for me.

Allāhumma-ghfir lī, wa-rḥamnī, wa-ʿāfinī, wa-hdinī, wa-rzuqnī.

Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say this between the two prostrations:

Five short requests follow one another: forgiveness (ighfir), mercy (irḥam), well-being (ʿāfinī), guidance (ihdinī) and provision (irzuqnī). The commentary Tuḥfat al-Aḥwadhī notes that Tirmidhī's wording has wa-jburnī in place of wa-ʿāfinī, and that Ibn Mājah's wording differs again. It quotes al-Jazarī that wa-jburnī means “enrich me”, from the phrase “Allah mended his calamity”, meaning He restored what was lost or compensated for it, and that the word's root is the mending of a break. It adds that the report shows the supplication is prescribed in the sitting between the two prostrations.
