The origin of the heavens, the earth, and everything between them unfolds over six Days, immediately followed by God establishing Himself upon the Throne. Across multiple verses, this exact sequence frames the beginning of existence not as a distant historical event, but as the foundation of an ongoing, active command. The descriptions of this six-day period bypass structural mechanics to focus entirely on the Creator's authority, linking the physical formation of the cosmos directly to His awareness of every hidden action. All creation, and the commands that dictate how that creation functions, belong exclusively to Him (7:54).
What followed the six days of creation?
The completion of the six Days is consistently tied to God taking His place on the Throne. The text makes clear that He does not step back from His work after these six Days. Instead, He governs everything, directing the sun, moon, and stars so that they are strictly subservient to His command (7:54). He orchestrates the continuous cycles of time, making the night swiftly pursue and cover the day. Because He engineered the heavens and the earth, He knows exactly what enters the soil and what emerges from it, as well as what descends from the sky and what ascends back up (57:4). The title "Lord of Mercy" is explicitly connected to this act of establishing Himself on the throne, alongside the reminder that He is the Best Informed of all affairs (25:59). Every process in the universe remains bound to this governance; even intercession is impossible unless He has first granted permission. Recognizing this absolute authority over the six Days of creation leaves only one logical conclusion: He is God your Lord, so worship Him (10:3).
Did God experience fatigue?
The six-day creation process involved no physical toll, strain, or need for recovery. The text explicitly states that the heavens, the earth, and the entirety of what exists between them were formed in these six Days without Him tiring in the slightest (50:38). The descriptions emphasize an absolute, unyielding capability, contrasting the immense scale of the cosmos with the effortlessness of its Maker.
Why was the world constructed in this manner?
The formation of the universe over this precise duration serves a distinct intent regarding human behavior. During the creation of the heavens and the earth in six Days, His rule extended over the waters (11:7). The stated reason for erecting this massive structure is moral rather than merely physical: to test people to see which of them does best in their actions. The physical reality of the six Days is presented as proof of His capability to recreate life. Yet, when the Prophet informs the disbelievers that they will be resurrected after death, they reject the warning, dismissing it as clearly nothing but sorcery (11:7).
The same power that constructed the heavens and the earth in six Days remains intimately close to the daily lives operating within them. The vastness of creating the cosmos, directing the subservient stars, and establishing authority on the Throne scales down directly to the individual. He is with you wherever you are, and He sees all that you do (57:4).

إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ يُغْشِى ٱلَّيْلَ ٱلنَّهَارَ يَطْلُبُهُۥ حَثِيثًا وَٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ وَٱلنُّجُومَ مُسَخَّرَٰتٍۭ بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗ أَلَا لَهُ ٱلْخَلْقُ وَٱلْأَمْرُ ۗ تَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
Your Lord is God, who created the heavens and earth in six Days, then established Himself on the throne; He makes the night cover the day in swift pursuit; He created the sun, moon, and stars to be subservient to His command; all creation and command belong to Him. Exalted be God, Lord of all the worlds!
إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖ يُدَبِّرُ ٱلْأَمْرَ ۖ مَا مِن شَفِيعٍ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ إِذْنِهِۦ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Your Lord is God who created the heavens and earth in six Days, then established Himself on the Throne, governing everything; there is no one that can intercede with Him, unless He has first given permission: this is God your Lord so worship Him. How can you not take heed?
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْمَآءِ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۗ وَلَئِن قُلْتَ إِنَّكُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْمَوْتِ لَيَقُولَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ
It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six Days––His rule extends over the waters too––so as to test which of you does best. Yet [Prophet], if you say to them, ‘You will be resurrected after death,’ the disbelievers are sure to answer, ‘This is clearly nothing but sorcery.’
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ۚ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ فَسْـَٔلْ بِهِۦ خَبِيرًا
it is He who created the heavens and earth and what is between them in six Days, and then established Himself on the throne- He is the Lord of Mercy; He is the Best Informed.
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ
We created the heavens, the earth, and everything between, in six Days without tiring.
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَمَا يَنزِلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَا ۖ وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ
It was He who created the heavens and earth in six Days and then established Himself on the throne. He knows what enters the earth and what comes out of it; what descends from the sky and what ascends to it. He is with you wherever you are; He sees all that you do;
