Remember when Moses prayed for water for his people and We said to him, ‘Strike the rock with your staff.’ Twelve springs gushed out, and each group knew its drinking place. ‘Eat and drink the sustenance God has provided and do not cause corruption in the land.’
So Moses threw his staff and- lo and behold!- it was a snake, clear to all,
Then We inspired Moses, ‘Throw your staff,’ and- lo and behold!––it devoured their fakery.
We divided them into twelve tribes [as distinct] communities, and, when his people asked him for water, inspired Moses to strike the rock with his staff [so that] twelve springs gushed out. Each tribe knew its own drinking place; We gave them the shade of clouds and sent down to them manna and quails [saying], ‘Eat the good things We have provided for you.’ They did not wrong Us; it was themselves they wronged.
- 20:18 طه قَالَ هِىَ عَصَاىَ أَتَوَكَّؤُا۟ عَلَيْهَا وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِى وَلِىَ فِيهَا مَـَٔارِبُ أُخْرَىٰ ‘It is my staff,’ he said, ‘I lean on it; restrain my sheep with it; I also have other uses for it.’
God said, ‘Throw it down, Moses.’
He threw it down and- lo and behold!- it became a fast-moving snake.
He said, ‘Pick it up without fear: We shall turn it back into its former state.
So Moses threw down his staff and- lo and behold!- it became a snake for everyone to see.
- 26:46 الشعراء فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَـٰجِدِينَ and the sorcerers fell down on their knees,
- 26:63 الشعراء فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْبَحْرَ ۖ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَٱلطَّوْدِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ and We revealed to Moses: ‘Strike the sea with your staff.’ It parted- each side like a mighty mountain-
Throw down your staff,’ but when he saw it moving like a snake, he turned and fled. ‘Moses, do not be afraid! The messengers need have no fear in My presence,
Throw down your staff.’ When he saw his staff moving like a snake, he fled in fear and would not return. Again [he was called]: ‘Moses! Draw near! Do not be afraid, for you are one of those who are safe.
Then, when We decreed Solomon’s death, nothing showed the jinn he was dead, but a creature of the earth eating at his stick: when he fell down they realized- if they had known what was hidden they would not have continued their demeaning labour.
