Surah Adh-Dhariyat (The Winnowing Winds) — 60 verses
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
قَالُوٓاْ
إِنَّآ
أُرۡسِلۡنَآ
إِلَىٰ
قَوۡمٖ
مُّجۡرِمِينَ
٣٢
They said, ‘We are sent to a people lost in sin,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
لِنُرۡسِلَ
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
حِجَارَةٗ
مِّن
طِينٖ
٣٣
to bring down rocks of clay,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
مُّسَوَّمَةً
عِندَ
رَبِّكَ
لِلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ
٣٤
marked by your Lord for those who exceed all bounds.’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا
مَن
كَانَ
فِيهَا
مِنَ
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
٣٥
We brought out such believers as were there-
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَمَا
وَجَدۡنَا
فِيهَا
غَيۡرَ
بَيۡتٖ
مِّنَ
ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ
٣٦
We found only one household devoted to God-
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَتَرَكۡنَا
فِيهَآ
ءَايَةٗ
لِّلَّذِينَ
يَخَافُونَ
ٱلۡعَذَابَ
ٱلۡأَلِيمَ
٣٧
and left the town to be a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَفِي
مُوسَىٰٓ
إِذۡ
أَرۡسَلۡنَٰهُ
إِلَىٰ
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ
مُّبِينٖ
٣٨
There is another sign in Moses: We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.

فَتَوَلَّىٰ
بِرُكۡنِهِۦ
وَقَالَ
سَٰحِرٌ
أَوۡ
مَجۡنُونٞ
٣٩
Pharaoh turned away with his supporters, saying, ‘This is a sorcerer, or maybe a madman,’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُ
وَجُنُودَهُۥ
فَنَبَذۡنَٰهُمۡ
فِي
ٱلۡيَمِّ
وَهُوَ
مُلِيمٞ
٤٠
so We seized him and his forces and threw them into the sea: he was to blame.

وَفِي
عَادٍ
إِذۡ
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
عَلَيۡهِمُ
ٱلرِّيحَ
ٱلۡعَقِيمَ
٤١
There is another sign in the Ad: We sent the life-destroying wind against them
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
مَا
تَذَرُ
مِن
شَيۡءٍ
أَتَتۡ
عَلَيۡهِ
إِلَّا
جَعَلَتۡهُ
كَٱلرَّمِيمِ
٤٢
and it reduced everything it came up against to shreds.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَفِي
ثَمُودَ
إِذۡ
قِيلَ
لَهُمۡ
تَمَتَّعُواْ
حَتَّىٰ
حِينٖ
٤٣
And also in the Thamud: it was said to them, ‘Make the most of your lives for a while,’
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَعَتَوۡاْ
عَنۡ
أَمۡرِ
رَبِّهِمۡ
فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ
ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ
وَهُمۡ
يَنظُرُونَ
٤٤
but they rebelled against their Lord’s command, so the blast took them. They looked on helplessly:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَمَا
ٱسۡتَطَٰعُواْ
مِن
قِيَامٖ
وَمَا
كَانُواْ
مُنتَصِرِينَ
٤٥
they could not even remain standing, let alone defend themselves.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَقَوۡمَ
نُوحٖ
مِّن
قَبۡلُۖ
إِنَّهُمۡ
كَانُواْ
قَوۡمٗا
فَٰسِقِينَ
٤٦
Before that We destroyed the people of Noah. They were a truly sinful people!
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ
بَنَيۡنَٰهَا
بِأَيۡيْدٖ
وَإِنَّا
لَمُوسِعُونَ
٤٧
We built the heavens with Our power and made them vast,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ
فَرَشۡنَٰهَا
فَنِعۡمَ
ٱلۡمَٰهِدُونَ
٤٨
We spread out the earth- how well We smoothed it out!-
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
وَمِن
كُلِّ
شَيۡءٍ
خَلَقۡنَا
زَوۡجَيۡنِ
لَعَلَّكُمۡ
تَذَكَّرُونَ
٤٩
and We created pairs of all things so that you [people] might take note.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
فَفِرُّوٓاْ
إِلَى
ٱللَّهِۖ
إِنِّي
لَكُم
مِّنۡهُ
نَذِيرٞ
مُّبِينٞ
٥٠
[So, say to them, Prophet], ‘Quickly, turn to God- I am sent by Him to give you clear warning-
