Mawlid an-Nabi (also written as Milad un-Nabi) commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), observed on 12 Rabi al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar. Mawlid 2026 is expected on August 25, 2026. It is celebrated in many Muslim communities worldwide with gatherings, poetry, and remembrance of the Prophet's life.
The Mawlid celebrates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who was born in the Year of the Elephant (approximately 570 CE) in Makkah. Observance of the Mawlid varies across the Muslim world. Many communities hold gatherings featuring recitation of poetry praising the Prophet, study of his biography (Seerah), and sharing of meals. The day serves as an occasion to increase prayers upon the Prophet (salawat) and to teach the younger generation about his noble character and teachings.
