Explanation
Ash-Shāfī comes from the root sh-f-y, whose noun shifāʾ means healing or cure, so the Name describes the One who heals. In this report the Prophet (peace be upon him) asks Allah to remove the affliction, calling Him Lord of the people. He then asks for healing, saying, “You are the Healer; there is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no sickness behind.” The Name is used here to ask for a cure for the sick person, and it affirms that all healing is from Allah alone.
