When the Fire is placed in full view of the misguided, the immediate reality they face is a sudden, violent collapse of their worldly allegiances. The Quran pictures a definitive scene in the Unseen where the followers, the very figures who misled them, and all the supporters of Iblis are hurled into Hell together (26:91-95). In this confined space, unity dissolves into bitter confrontation. Instead of finding comfort in the company of those who shared their beliefs, the inhabitants of the Fire turn against one another in a frantic effort to escape responsibility.

Where are the protectors and leaders?

Before the internal arguments break out, the misguided are forced to confront the total impotence of everything they venerated. They are challenged with a direct question: "Where are those you worshipped beside God?" (26:92). The entities and authorities they relied on for security or spiritual cover are exposed as useless. The questioning strips away any remaining illusions they might hold about their alliances, asking, "Can they help you now, or even help themselves?" (26:93).

The answer manifests physically. There is no rescue, no organized defense, and no dignified exit. Instead, the worshippers, their false gods, and the misleaders are all hurled into Hell as one disgraced collective (26:94). The physical nature of being thrown in together emphasizes their complete lack of control. They are joined by all of Iblis’s supporters (26:95), creating an environment populated entirely by those who failed each other.

Why do they argue in the Fire?

Once inside, the Quran details the specific nature of their blame-throwing. As they bicker among themselves, the followers speak directly to the gods and leaders they once elevated. The crushing reality forces a partial admission of guilt: "We were clearly misguided when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds" (26:96-98). They finally recognize the irrationality of treating any creation as equal to God.

Yet, this confession immediately pivots to deflection. Rather than taking full ownership of their choices, they point fingers at their former guides, claiming, "It was the evildoers who led us astray" (26:99). They attempt to shift the moral weight of their actions onto the people who popularized the falsehood. The followers want to isolate the blame, framing themselves as mere casualties of someone else's deception, hoping that identifying the original source of the misguidance might somehow excuse their participation.

This frantic attempt to transfer guilt yields no relief. The arguments fall flat in a realm where no false authority remains. After recognizing that their chosen equals are just as helpless as they are, and that blaming the evildoers changes absolutely nothing about their own condition, the misguided are left with a final realization of their absolute abandonment. Stripped of the leaders they followed and the alliances they built, they confess that they now have no intercessor to plead their case, and no true friend (26:100-101).
