motion of objects in the Universe
6 verses
The physical stability of the cosmos relies entirely on an active divine grip, holding the heavens and the earth to prevent them from vanishing (35:41). Rather than describing a self-sustaining void where objects drift endlessly, the text defines celestial existence as a deliberate, temporary construct bound to an exact timeline. The very persistence of the universe is tethered to the Creator’s forbearance and forgiveness, maintaining the environment in which human life operates until a predetermined end.
What is the true purpose of the universe? Every verse referencing the establishment of the heavens and the earth emphasizes that they were brought into existence for a "true purpose" (44:39). This purpose encompasses not just the extremities of the universe, but everything positioned between the sky and the ground (46:3). It is not an infinite, ongoing state. The universe is appointed for a "specific term," establishing a hard physical limit to its duration. The cyclical phenomena observed within this structure, such as the sky characterized by its "recurring rain" (86:11), operate strictly under these defined boundaries and timeframes. Despite this clear, finite framework, the text notes that most people do not comprehend the reality of this overarching design (44:39). Consequently, those who deny the truth persistently ignore the warning they have been given regarding the universe's inevitable conclusion (46:3).
How does celestial structure connect to human accountability? The massive scale of the heavens and the earth is tethered directly to individual human actions. The reason behind the creation of these cosmic structures is inherently moral: they exist to provide an environment where each soul can eventually be rewarded according to its specific deeds, guaranteeing that no individual will be wronged (45:22). The same Creator who established the universe for this specific end is also the one who shaped human beings, deliberately making their physical forms good (64:3). The environment of the universe and the physical human body share this unified trajectory. Both are deliberately formed, and both exist only until all ultimately return to Him (64:3).
What keeps the heavens and earth from vanishing? The ongoing operation of the cosmos is not left to autonomous physical laws, but requires constant, active intervention. God maintains a continuous hold on the heavens and the earth to keep them from ceasing to exist altogether (35:41). The structure of the sky and its regular cycles rely entirely on this uninterrupted suspension. If the heavens and the earth were to actually begin vanishing, slipping out of existence, absolutely no other entity or power could arrest their collapse or stop the process (35:41).
The ongoing preservation of these massive structures, despite the actions of those who ignore the divine warnings, reflects a Creator who is most forbearing and most forgiving (35:41). The sky continues its recurring rain (86:11) and the cosmos holds its physical form only until the specific term is finally reached, maintaining order so that every soul can be rewarded according to its deeds (45:22).
