Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) is the second major Islamic holiday, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him) to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to Allah's command. Eid al-Adha 2026 is expected on May 27, 2026. It coincides with the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage.
Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and is considered the holiest of the two Eid celebrations. It honors the ultimate act of submission to Allah demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Muslims who can afford it perform Qurbani (animal sacrifice), distributing the meat among family, friends, and those in need. The holiday follows the Day of Arafah, the most important day of the Hajj pilgrimage.
